CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston's track & field team travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to participate in the Kent Taylor UNC Classic on Saturday.
Charleston is one of more than 20 schools competing at the Eddie Smith Field House this weekend. CofC joins The Citadel and Davidson as representatives from the Southern Conference.
This is the third straight year the Cougars have competed in the Classic. Last year sophomore jumper Emily Smith (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern) tied for first place in the high jump with a height of 5'6". CofC also won the distance medley relay with a time of 12:44.38.
Junior Erin Stoddard (Mauldin, S.C./J.L. Mann) completed the 5,000-meters in a time of 18:28.12 to take second place while redshirt-senior Emily Nagle (Annapolis, Md./Richmond) set a personal record in the 800-meters with a ninth-place finish of 2:24.27. On her heels, and placing 11th was sophomore Alyssa D'Orazio (Haddonfield, N.J./, who crossed the finish line just .56 of a second later.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. as freshman pole vaulter Chelsea Taylor (Seneca, S.C./Seneca) competes in the first women's event. Jumps and throws will follow the men's events, which also begin at 10 a.m.
Running events start at noon with the 60-meter hurdles, in which junior Brynne Johnson (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) and freshman Jelain McArthur (Laurens, S.C./Laurens District) will participate. The meet will finish with the 4x400 meter relay at 8 p.m.
