McArthur Wins Second Straight SoCon Track Athlete of the Week Award

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston freshman Jelain McArthur (Laurens, S.C./Laurens) won her second straight Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Week award, as announced by the conference on Thurs.

McArthur broke two school records with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina last weekend. She broke her previous record in the 100-meter hurdles in the preliminaries before shaving another eight-hundredths of a second off for a second-place time of 14.20 seconds. The new record is more than a half-second faster than her original record at the Palmetto Invitational on Mar. 12.

The rookie also finished second in the long jump, surpassing the old school record by a quarter-inch with a new mark of 18'5¼". She recorded the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 200 meters with a time of 25.51 seconds to place 18th.

McArthur has now received the Athlete of the Week accolade three times this year.

Appalachian State's Danielle Thorpe received the Field Athlete of the Week honors for her triple jump distance of 39'2½", ranking her 33rd in the nation.

The Cougars travel to Raleigh, N.C. this weekend to compete in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State.
