DURHAM, N.C. - College of Charleston junior Mary Zolga (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) broke the school record in the 400-meter hurdles for the second straight week as the Cougars' track & field team competed in the Duke Invitational on Friday.
She placed eighth out of a field of more than 50 athletes with a time of 1:03.88. Junior Saskia Kalmeijer (Brussels, Belgium/Pope) placed 35th with a personal-best time of 1:09.14.
Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week Jelain McArthur (Laurens, S.C./Laurens District) leapt a distance of 39'4½" in the triple jump to place eighth out of 30 competitors. Her jump was just a half-inch short of the school record she set last weekend at the Raleigh Relays.
On the track, sophomore Kristen Wolfe (Midlothian, Va./James River) ran the 1,500 meters in 4:43.42 to place 17th. Wolfe currently owns the school record in the event and her time on Friday was the second-fastest in CofC history. Senior Emily Nagle (Annapolis, Md./Richmond) came in second in the 1,500-meter developmental race with a season-best time of 4:55.69.
Sophomore Grace Loba (Orean, Va./Faquier) represented the Cougars in the 5,000-meter race. Her time of 18:53.42 put her in eighth place.
Tomorrow's action kicks off at 9:15 a.m. with the 5,000-meter Section "C" race where Kristen Jenkins (Cheyenne, Wyo./Cheyenne) will represent the Cougars.
