The Newberry Academy Cross Country Team participated in the Dec. 13 Love Like Alissa 5K in memory of cross country teammate Lance Crider. Crider, 16, the 2025 SCISA Division 1A cross country champion, passed away Dec. 2, 2025.
The 5K benefits the Love Like Alissa Foundation.
A Celebration of Life was held Dec. 15. A service was held Dec. 27 at Pine Knolls Alliance Church in South Glens Falls, NY.
Crider made history in the fall of 2025 as a member of the Newberry Academy Cross Country Team. He earned the SCISA Individual State Championship and helped the team secure the State Championship title, according to his obituary. Throughout the season, he was also named Region Champion, Runner of the Year, All Region, Track MVP and Cross Country MVP. At the state meet, Lance set a personal record and helped lead his team to victory, a season he was incredibly proud of, the obituary stated.
