Kurgatt, Stewart Lead SC State at Cross Country Event

Gamecock Invite is first Competition of Season

COLUMBIA, SC – Juniors Charles Kurgatt and Brittney Stewart were the leaders for South Carolina State at the Sept. 3 Gamecock Invitational at Ft. Jackson in the first cross country competition for both SC State teams. 

            Kurgatt finished 13th overall in the field with a time of 16:36.76 for the Bulldogs who were third among three Div. I schools. Clemson's Ty McCormack was the overall winner in the 5K event with a time of 15:08.13. Also participating for the SC State men were Walter Seymour, Aaron Worthy, Quinton Green, Reginald Childs and DeAngelo Bolden.

            Stewart was clocked in a time of 19:46.84 in the women's 5K to finish 20th  in the competition where host South Carolina's Beatrice Bowitt won with a time of 17:58.70. SC State was fifth in the five-team Div. I field.

            Other participants for the Lady Bulldogs were Patavia Lowery, Patrecia Daniley, Tamara Smith, Oprah Odugbela and Tamoya Morrison.
