CHARLESTON, S.C. - The men's and women's cross country teams get back at it as they travel to Rock Hill, S.C. this weekend for the Asics-Winthrop Invitational.
The Cougars will see many familiar foes this weekend. Among the 21 teams competing the Southern Conference will be represented by CofC, Appalachian State, Furman, Wofford and The Citadel.
"It's really good to see how we match up against other schools in the conference," said head coach Amy Seago. "This meet is also billed as the South Carolina championship meet, so we will see who the best teams in the state are. Clemson won't be there, but we should see everyone else."
The Cougars are coming off their opening meet two weeks ago in the Eye Opener at USC Upstate where the women's finished fifth and the men finished sixth.
Freshman Dena O'Brien got her cougar career off to a great start with a fourth-place individual finish. Her time of 18:09 ranks 10th on the all-time women's performance list.
On the men's side junior Christian Bailey led the way with a tenth-place finish in 26:07. Bailey's time was a career-best and is sixth on the all-time men's performance list.
The men will compete against Appalachian State, Belmont Abbey, Benedict, Campbell, Citadel, Edward Waters, Francis Marion, Furman, Lees-McRae, Mars Hill, Mount Olive, Newberry, Presbyterian, Spartanburg Methodist, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford.
