BLACKSBURG, VA. - Presbyterian College's cross country teams finished sixth and seventh at the Big South Conference's Preview Meet on Saturday morning. The women claimed sixth in the 5k competition with 168 points. The men finished seventh in the 8k with 200 points.
PC's women were led by freshman Alex Thomas with a time of 21:19. Next was junior Stephanie Newell with a time of 22:48. Senior Natalie Parkman crossed the line in 24:07, her best performance of the season. Sophomore Emily Witt ran 24:34 and freshman Mary Kathryn Piontek finished at 25:08 to round out the competing five.
As a team, the Blue Hose finished with 168 points. VMI won the women's race with a low score of 19 points, taking four of the top-five spots. The Keydets' Hannah Granger won the individual title with a time of 18:57.
The men's team was led by senior Nicholas Baer in a time of 28:35. Freshman Seth Warner finished second for PC in a time of 30:08. Senior Adam Harris was close behind at 30:15. Freshmen Richard Taylor and Ryan Wasilewski finished in 31:16 and 31:17 respectively. Juniors Josh Morrisette and Will Ruark crossed the line in 33:12 and 34:09 to round out the team.
High Point won the men's race with a score of 38 points and had two top-five finishers. Winthrop's Adam Freudenthal won the men's race in a time of 26:09.
Radford hosted the event as a chance for participating teams to practice the unfamiliar course before the conference championship on October 30.
The Blue Hose will next compete at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday, October 1. The afternoon race will take place at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. The women are scheduled to race at 4 p.m. with the men racing at 4:30 p.m.
