SC State Women 3rd, Men 6th at Citadel Cross Country Invite

ORANGEBURG, SC -- The SC State women finished third and the men sixth at the Citadel Cross Country Invitational conducted at the James Island County Park Saturday (Sept. 25). The Lady Bulldogs covered the 5K course in a combined time of 1:44:22.76, while the men had a time of 2:32:07.70 in the 8K run.

Junior Brittney Stewart was the top runner for SC State and finished seventh overall out of 53 participants in the women's 5K with a time of 19:41. She was followed by freshman Patavia Lowery, 12th in a time of 20:05.00; senior Patrecia Daniley 21st in a personal-best time of 20:26.45; freshman Tamara Smith, 32th in a time of 21:35.61; sophomore Oprah Odugbela, 39th in a time of 22:34.20; Sophomore Tamoya Morrison, 45th in a time of 23:56.35; and senior Sade Pugh, 53rd with a time of 25:56.02.

In the men's division, junior Charles Kurgatt completed the 8K run in a time of 28:02.58 – a personal best in the event --  to finish 17th in a field of 55 participants. Freshman Walter Seymour was second for the Bulldogs with a 29th place finish in a time of 28:42.78, followed by Aaron Worthy, another freshman, 36th in a time of 29:26.67; junior Quinton Green, 46th in a time of 31:11.70; and sophomore Reginald Childs, 55th in a time of 34:43.97.

Furman won the women's 5K with a time of 1:37:23.45 and also captured the men's 8K in a time of 2:14:50.97.

SC State resumes its schedule Oct. 23 at the HBCU Challenge in Cary, NC.
