Cross Country Opens Fall Practice

Blue Hose Run Season's Best At Charlotte

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2010 Charlotte Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park on Friday. Every runner for the Blue Hose ran faster than the previous week, five set new personal records, and six finished very close to or tied their personal bests.

Freshman Alex Thomas finished with a time of 20:38 to lead the Blue Hose in the women's 5k race. Junior Stephanie Newell finished second for PC at 21:35, one second shy of her collegiate best. Fellow junior Sabrina Baker completed the course in 23:08 and was followed closely by senior Natalie Parkman. The co-captain tied her collegiate best at 23:14. Sophomore Emily Witt finished with a time of 23:38 and finished fifth for PC. Freshman Mary Kathryn Piontek set a new collegiate best at 24:29 to round out the team.

Clemson's women won the team title with an average time of 17:36 and score of 43 points. Wake Forest's Anna Nosenko won the individual title with a time of 16:38.  PC finished 25th overall with an average time of 22:27.

Senior Nicholas Baer lead the men's team for a fourth straight time this season. The senior captain finished a mere seven seconds from his collegiate best for the 8k and crossed the line at 27:45. Fellow senior and captain Adam Harris ran his fastest time of the season and stopped the clock at 28:27, only 13 seconds from his collegiate best.

Freshman Seth Warner ran 29:02 and missed his PR by one second. However, freshmen Richard Taylor and Ryan Wasilewski averaged forty second better each over the 8k course. Taylor ran 29:18 and Wasilewski 29:25 to round out the scoring five for PC.

Junior Josh Morrisette tied his collegiate best at 31:19, with sophomore Brian Trail close behind. Trail finished at 31:53 and set a new PR by 45 seconds. Junior Will Ruark ran his fastest of the season and completed the 8k in 32:32 with freshman Kevin Quan just behind at 32:52, also his fastest of the season.

Wake Forest won the men's race with 38 points and an average time of 25:03. Clemson's Ty McCormack won the individual title with a time of 24:37.  PC finished 19th overall with an average time of 28:47.

The Blue Hose will next race on October 16 at the Winthrop Fall Classic.
