Newell And Parkman Pace PC With Personal Bests At Conference Championship

BLACKSBURG, VA. - The Presbyterian College women's cross country team was paced by a pair of personal best times at the 2010 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning.

Junior Stephanie Newell led the women's team in the 5k race with a new collegiate best time of 21:33. Senior Natalie Parkman also ran her collegiate best, finishing in 23:00. Junior Sabrina Baker was close behind at 23:03. Sophomore Emily Witt covered the 5k course in a time of 24:17, an improvement of 17 seconds from September. Freshman Mary Kathryn Piontek claimed a time of 25:31 to round out the Blue Hose five.

"I'm very proud of our ladies today," Coach Palmer said after the race. "Despite the cold temperatures, they got out and attacked the race. The good times today helped set a good tone for the men's race as well as end our season on a high note. I am very proud of Stephanie and Natalie for setting new PRs today."

Libery won the women's championship with a low-score of 39. The Flames' Jennifer Klugh won the individual championship in a time of 17:54 and earned runner-of-the-year honors.

Championship photos will be available from the conference shortly. Please check back to www.GoBlueHose.com for the latest news and results.
