LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday. Freshman Dena O'Brien highlighted the day for the Cougars, as she placed 61st setting a new CofC school record crossing the line in 21:46.3 for the 6k race. The men finished 27th out of 34 teams, while the women placed 29th out of 37.
On the men's side junior Christian Bailey ran the fourth fastest 10k all-time as he placed 100th in 33:02.6. Bailey improved on his performance last year by 26 places and 22 seconds.
O'Brien, running in her first 6k of her collegiate career, shattered the previous record of 22:05.7, set by Ashley Arnold at the NCAA Regional meet in 2004.
CofC head coach Amy Seago said both teams made great improvements this season, but there is still more work to do.
