Several South Carolina high school athletes posted personal bests at regional meets during the week of April 27.
Ja'Nasia Graham (Darlington) jumped 19-0.35 to win the long jump at SCHSL 4A Region 5 on April 30, improving from her previous best of 16-0.13. The mark ranks third in South Carolina among 1,374 athletes and third among juniors statewide. The jump set a school record for Darlington.
Zayden Smalls (Cane Bay) leaped 22-5.29 for third place in the long jump at SCHSL 5A Region 7 on April 29, bettering his previous mark of 20-3.31. The performance ranks 27th statewide among 1,679 athletes and ninth among junior boys.
Darren Ben (Calhoun County) jumped 21-5 for third in the long jump at SCHSL 1A Region 3 on April 27, improving from 19-4.25 set in April. The sophomore ranks 77th in the state and ninth among sophomores. Ben also set personal bests in the high jump (6-0, previous 5-6) and triple jump (42-8, previous 39-6) at the same meet.
Serenity Williams (Lee Central) ran 25.85 for second place in the 200 meters at SCHSL 1A Region 2 on April 30, dropping her time from 26.97. The junior ranks 77th statewide among 3,296 athletes and the performance set a school record. Williams also posted a personal best in the 400 meters, clocking 1:00.62 to improve from 1:00.70.
Julia Suriol-Gaul (Myrtle Beach) ran 2:27.64 for third in the 800 meters at SCHSL 5A Region 6 on April 29, improving from 2:35.00. The freshman ranks 93rd among 1,898 state athletes and 12th among freshmen.
Joshua Tackett (Denmark-Olar) ran 16.24 for second in the 110-meter hurdles at SCHSL 1A Region 4 on April 28, lowering his time from 17.44. The senior ranks 99th statewide among 606 athletes. Tackett also set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:04.25 to improve from 1:07.84.
Jalon Dunlap (Emerald) threw 52-0.75 for second place in the shot put at SCHSL 4A Region 1 on May 1, improving from 45-8.25. The senior ranks 12th statewide among 1,852 athletes and sixth among seniors.
