Where are they now: Green Sea-Floyd alumnus Calesio Newman

What was the biggest adjustment you had to make to compete at the college level?
The biggest adjustment was mentally believing you belong on the college level and understanding and studying the sport of track and field.

How would you rate your college running career and overall college experience?
Right now a scale of 1-10, I will give my career a seven because I'm close to my goal. I've done great things but I still have a ways to go.

I rate my college experience at six. I was always at the big stage but never received All-American status. I always ran with the best and had one of the best times in the country.

Is there anything you can tell high school athletes to better prepare them for the college experience?
I recommend to high schools athletes to believe you belong, work hard and have a mindset that you are a pro athlete. Be cocky within yourself,  but humble around others.

Do you plan to attend South Carolina for any outdoor meets this coming season?
I plan to attend the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach.

Have you been back to see a meet recently?
I haven't been back to see any meets, but I plan on it.

What memories from competing in high school stand out the most?
My memories from high school include taking the 4x100-meter relay from seventh to first my junior year and during my senior year almost breaking the state record. And winning the 100-meter dash my freshman year.

What are you doing in the present and hope to do in the future?
I go to schools and churches to speak to young kids and help them see me as a person that made it from South Carolina pushing and motivating them to strive for the best.
