Riverside girls are the team favorites for the girls invitational at the Wendy’s Invitational in Charlotte Saturday.
The Warriors top five runners are projected to finish in the top 25, according to virtual meet statistics and with a team score of 49.
Cate Ambrose, a sophomore, is leading the Warriors with a season-best 18:07, projected for second in the meet. Teammate Ashley Fallow is predicted to finish fifth and Abigail Smith in the top 10, both under 18:40. Kathleen Mansure of Watauga (N.C.) is entered with the fastest time (18:00).
Chapel Hill (N.C.) is projected to finish second (101 points).
Spartanburg senior Myers McKinney has the fastest time (15:07, Low Country Invitational) going into the meet. Seventeen runners in the boys invitational race have run a sub-16 5K this season. In the mix will be Logan Veatch of Wando and Ryan Smith of Mauldin.
In the girls open race Class AAA teams Eastside and Hilton Head will compete for the team title with Providence of North Carolina. Hilton Head is the favorite with 92 points, but Providence and Eastside are close, 95 and 96, respectively.
Hilton Head’s Ben Gilman looks to be the open boys individual favorite with five teammates having top the 10 times in the open race. The Seahawks are the team favorite with a virtual meet low score of 20. Pinecrest (N.C.) is second and Marvin Ridge (N.C.) third.
