Wayne Davis NC 7.16 55H US #10 All-Time!Photo by Ted Plunkett It was a snow-less day in Lynchburg for the Asics Invite, but weather elsewhere and paranoia of bad weather prevented some (or at least meet transportation woes) from competing in Lynchburg and meets across the state, but still the meets went on and there is plenty of action and performances to digest from this weekend over the next few days. Results are all posted from the major meets with on-site coverage from Asics to come including photos, videos, and interviews. Performances from this weekend will be entered soon as well into the database.Asics Invitational Photo Gallery by Ted Plunkett - 1,239 total photos. Asics Invitational Photo Gallery by Tom Hoerner - 1,032 total photos.Asics Invitational Videos - More videos to be added. Results & Highlights Asics Invitational - Despite being from North Carolina, Wayne Davis was the story of the meet with US #10 all-time 55 meter hurdle performance of 7.16 in the finals on Saturday. Friday @ Asics Invite: Olamigoke US #3 TJ 47\'8\" Jan 18, 2008

The threat of snow on Saturday kept some from making the trip to Lynchburg for this weekend's Asics Invitational, but those present on Friday evening were able to make for some outstanding performances. Mountain View's Olu Olamigoke (pictured left by John Herzog) bested previous triple jump state leader David Wilson of George Washington with a US #3 mark of 47'8". Meanwhile, Charlottesville's Justin Jackson joined Chris Copeland in the 6'8" club this season in the high jump. Peter Dorrell broke 4:20 for another time in the 1600 as he led from start to finish in 4:19.88 and Tasia Potasinski crept closer to five minutes with a state best 1600 of 5:04.69. The Atlee girls top vaulters switched their usual orders with Rachael Hawks as the winner clearing 11'6" for the second meet in a row and Emma Dejarnette at second in 11'0". North Carolina ruled the sprints with winners in the 300 meter dashes as Kelsey McCorkle won the 300 meter dash in 40.91 and has the top time in the 55 meter dash prelims at 7.30. More to come from Liberty including photos, videos, and interviews. Asics Invitational Friday Results Video Interview with Olu Olamigoke

Asics Invitational Preview - Boys Jan 18, 2008

Johnny Dutch put a show for Virginians last year at the Virginia Tech Invitational and another hurdler from North Carolina will do the same this weeekend at the Asics Invite in US leader in the 55 (7.23) and 60 (7.63) meter hurdles, Wayne Davis of Southeast Raleigh. The defending Nike Outdoor Nationals 110 meter hurdles champion and World Youth champion and record holder will definitely be in a class of his owns in the 55 meter hurdles at Liberty. Some of Virginia's best hurdlers will be competing this weekend as well and the scary thought is if they competed in the 55 meter hurdles and the Southeast Raleigh junior Davis competed in the 60 meter hurdles next to them, Davis could likely still win. Douglas Freeman's Michael Quash and Brookville's Ethan Nixon are ranked third and fourth respectively in the state with season best times of 7.64 and 7.67 in the 55 meter hurdles, while Davis ran 7.63 in his 60 meter hurdles victory last weekend at Arkansas.

Asics Invitational Preview - Girls Jan 18, 2008

A top sprinter from North Carolina will attempt a sweep of the sprints, two of Virginia's top returning middle distance runners will make a run for 5 minutes in the 1600, three vaulters look to top their all-time best clearances from last week, Bethel relays hope for a collision-free victorious weekend, and 20 girls seeded under 3:10 in the 1000 are just some of the girls' preview highlights for this weekend's Asics Invitational in Lynchburg.

Athlete Spotlight: Tasia Potasinski Jan 17, 2008

Westfield senior Tasia Potasinski (pictured left by John Herzog) was rolling last weekend at the CNU Showcase in Newport News. The fastest returning 800 meter runner in the state (2:12.21 PR) anchored her 4x800 meter relay last Friday to a US #1 time of 9:22.90 with a 2:15 anchor leg split. She followed up on day two of events with a near personal best and US #10 time of 2:59.36 in a 1000 meter run as she defeated a strong field including defending state 1000 meter champion Paige Johnston of Midlothian. Potasinski looks to keep the momentum going into this weekend at the Asics Invitational at Liberty University where she will compete against another state champion runner in Laura Rapp (4:55 1600 best) of Heritage in Friday night’s 1600 meter run. The Westfield girls were able to win that elusive first state title in the 4x800 meter relay last June after coming into several previous state meets as one of the top squads in the event. Maybe it is Potasinski’s time to win her first individual state title as well after she broke out onto the scene as a freshman with a 2:15 800 meter win at the Northern Region Outdoor Meet. The country of Poland certainly has been kind to the Virginia high school running community as of late with allowing us to have 2007 Nike Indoor Nationals 800 champ Axel Mostrag compete at Fork Union as well as Potasinski with Polish heritage. Potasinski’s father was born in Poland. MileStat.com’s Brandon Miles caught up with the Westfield middle distance star for an athlete spotlight interview.
