Spring Valley alumna Kate Niehaus finished second in the 5,000-meter event at the U.S.A. Junior Championships, held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Niehaus covered the distance in 17:37.43 with Natasha LaBeaud finishing first in 17:12.63.

Dennis Martin (Westside HS/Florida) finished second in heat one of the 110-meter hurdles with a preliminary qualifying mark of 13.61.
Martin had the fifth fastest time going into the finals. Martin finished second in the finals in 13.46, a new meet record. Cordera Jenkins was first in 13.44.
Tempest Vance, running for Quick Striders, was second in heat one of the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries, and a top seventh preliminary time. Vance finished fifth in the finals in 59.87.
Brittney James (Dreher HS/South Carolina) placed fifth in the long jump finals with a best leap of 19-06.00, missing the top four spots by .25.
Laurens Alumnus Will Noble Set To Compete In 1500
Clemson distance runner Will Noble (Laurens HS) is entered in the 1500-meter event at the championships with a qualifying mark of 3:51.03. The 1500 event is slated for Friday.
USC Athletes Set To Compete
Precious Akins (Summerville HS) is set to compete in the discus on June 24.
Chiquita Martin (Westside HS) is entered in the 400-meter hurdles, slated for June 23.
Brittney James (Dreher HS) is entered in the junior long jump and 100-meter hurdles Thursday.
The championships started today and conclude June 25.
The championships will air on ESPN2 from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 5-7 p.m. Sunday.
