Westside graduate Moe Brown and Spring Valley graduate Kate Niehaus were named Gatorade State Athletes of the Year following the 2006 track and field season.
The award is given for each sport in the state.
Brown has database bests of:
110-hurdles: 14.07
200-meter dash: 22.47
Long jump: 23-05.50
Triple jump: 48-10.00
Niehaus, state record-holder in the 1600, 3200, and cross country 5,000-meter run, will attend Stanford this fall. This is the second time Niehaus has received this award.
