Greeley breaks record in pole vault


Northwestern alumnus Mitch Greeley, a junior at Clemson, set a new school and facility pole vault record at the Clemson Opener Saturday.

Greeley cleared 17-07.25 (5.37 meters), provisionally qualifying for NCAA Indoor Nationals, which is slated for March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Seneca senior Kya Brookins, running unattached and attending University of South Carolina in the fall, set a new 60-meter dash indoor and would be school record of 7.28 seconds, enroute to the individual win. Brookins ran 7.29 in the preliminaries. Georgia Tech\'s Ashlee Kidd was second in the finals with a 7.56 finishing time. Brookins finished second in the 200-meter finals behind Kidd in 24.51. Brookins has an outdoor database best of 24.02, set at the Russell Blunt East Coast Invitational in July.

The NCAA automatic qualifying time for women in the 60 is 7.27 and the provisional time is 7.44.

Fort Dorchester alumna Chasity Johnson, a senior at Coastal Carolina University, sealed a win in the triple jump with a best of 42-01.50, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Johnson also placed second in the long jump with a best leap of 19-06.75.

Laurens alumnus Will Noble, a Clemson sophomore, sealed a win in the one mile event in 4:25.78. Winthrop junior Justin Meade (Palmetto) was third in 4:31.04.

Wren alumnus Brad Orr (Winthrop) finished second in the 3,000-meter event in 8:41.67.

Greenwood alumnus Trevor Beesley, a junior at Winthrop, sealed a win in the men\'s 5,000-meter event, crossing the line in 15:45.57, the only individual to go under 16-minutes.

Clemson sophomore George Fields (Ridge View) finished first in the men\'s long jump with a best leap of 24-06.25.
