Chapin junior Luke Lovelace finished 36th in 16:27 Saturday at Footlocker Nationals in San Diego.
The South boys placed third with West taking the win in team scoring, Northeast second and Midwest fourth.
Chapin coach Jack LeGrand mentioned Lovelace passed runners on the last hill and went out with the pack.
California's Chad Hall won the boys race. Tennessee's Kathy Kroeger won the girls race.
