West Ashley AD announces inaugural Sandlapper Classic

West Ashley Athletic Director Richard Luden recently announced the inaugural Sandlapper Track and Field Classic.

The press release submitted to scrunners.com notates the event as \"The Southeast's new season opening standard-bearer for event excellence and student athlete accommodations. The new Sandlapper Classic will build upon the success of its predecessor, the popular Wildcat Relays, while instituting the classic "championship" track & field format, complete with electronic timing and published "elite" ranking results for the athletes.\"

According to the release, formal invitations have \"gone out to every boys' and girls' high school track team in South Carolina and many more across Georgia and North Carolina.\" Luden, also the boys track and field coach at West Ashley, stated in the release he expects to draw 20-50 schools to the meet and prepared for many more.

According to the release, all accommodations, amenities, and promotional efforts are now being managed by the Sandlapper Real Estate Group — which is owned by former College World Series standout Gettys Glaze, who spent four years as a Citadel Bulldog and three years as a pro in the Boston Red Sox system. The release also states \"student athletes, coaches and the media alike can expect an unprecedented experience with professional attention to every detail.\"

Luden, a former state high school coach of the year, feels the meet has all the markings of an event that should achieve national popularity in a few years.

Wildcat Stadium is host site for the meet, a nine-lane facility, according to the release.
