Girls shot put national record holder Raven Saunders tuned up in between competing in the U.S. Juniors last weekend and World Juniors in two weeks with the Burke graduate putting together an impressive series at in Illinois at the Chicagoland Throws with four marks over 50 feet including a 56 feet, 4 inch best of the day to easily win the competition over a group of national caliber athletes in the shot put.
1. Raven Saunders 56-04 (50-09, 56-04, F, F, 50-07.25, 53-08.25)
2. Lloydricia Cameron 46-11.5
3. Shaina Burns 46-04.5
4. Ashlie Blake 45-08.25

Saunders is looking to be pushed with even better competition at the World Junior Championships and earn herself a medal for her country.
Saunders also placed a close second in the discus with a mark of 149 feet, two inches to U.S. leader Kiana Phelps (149'3") from Iowa. Only one inch separated the two for first and second place in the competition. It was a good redemption meet for Phelps after unable to win the national title at New Balance Nationals last month.
