Five of the top 10 boys entered in the Sandhills Invitational, home of the state meet, have run under 16 minutes. Sophomores Ben Gilman of Hilton Head and Avery Dominick of Dutch Fork are the top two favorites.
Hilton Head looks to be the team favorite with a virtual meet low score of 26. Wando and Dutch Fork are ranked two and three, respectively. Wade Hampton in Greenville is traveling to the meet and are a team that can be near the top.
Boys virtual meet
The top five females in the varsity race have run under 19 minutes this season. Anna Johnson of Dutch Fork and teammate Hope Whisman lead the field with times of 18:15 and 18:35, respectively.
A.C. Flora’s Susannah Cate also is near the top and has the ability and experience to win. Freshman Mallory Liggett of Hilton Head and Rosa Marie Compton of Wando are top five contenders. Olivia Evans of Carolina Homeschool can use the competition to move up in the 5,000 Saturday.
Dutch Fork and Hilton Head look to be favorites for the team title with Dutch Fork scoring 61 in the virtual meet and Hilton Head 71. Wanda, Ashley Hall and St. Joseph’s are contenders for the top five team spots.
