Stowers ties meet record enroute to 55 hurdle win at Eastern Challenge

Pendleton sophomore Jasmin Stowers held on to the fastest time of the day at the Eastern High School Challenge in Durham, N.C. earlier today in 8.01 seconds to win the 55-meter hurdles, tying the meet record (Gabby Mayo, SE Raleigh 2006). Stowers' tiime also qualifies her for Nike Indoor Nationals.

Stowers ran 8.09 in the preliminaries.

MileSplit.us elite rankings database.

Stowers qualified last weekend at the KTC Classic in Knoxville in the 60-meter hurdles, where she upset the nation's No. 1 hurdler Jacquelyn Coward, a senior from Tennessee.

Stowers finished third in the 55-meter dash in 7.17 seconds, a Nike Indoor Nationals qualifying time. Stowers won her preliminary heat 11 in 7.27 seconds, the fourth-fastest going into the finals.

Dorman senior wins 55-meter dash
Dorman senior Marcus Rowland qualified for Nike Indoor Nationals with a first place time of 6.34 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Rowland ran the fastest preliminary time of 6.42 seconds. Asheville's (N.C.) Giovani McKnight was second in 6.39 seconds.

Mann's Nelson second in 300-meter event
Mann sophomore Briana Nelson placed second to South Central's (N.C). Kelsey McCorkle in the 300-meter dash. McCorkle crossed the line in 39.91 seconds with Nelson across in 40.50, setting a Nike Indoor Nationals qualifying mark.

Nelson placed eighth in the 500-meter dash in 1 minutes, 21.16 seconds.
