Coaches step in to help with finish line at Sandlapper Classic

Area coaches joined together to help with timing and finish line coordination following technical problems with timing equipment during the second annual Sandlapper Classic at West Ashley High School in Charleston.

"Many of the coaches that I know and respect pitched in and helped when we had our problems with the camera timing system," said West Ashley athletic director and coach Richard Luden.

During sprint events coaches stood near the finish line with stopwatches to collect places and times. The coaches, during distance events helped to keep each in order while names and places were recorded.

"It was wonderful; as a matter of fact, one of them (coaches) said to me, 'this is like doing it the way we did it for years.' "I can't tell you how appreciative I was to have so many to step in and help without any hesitation or complaining," said Luden. "I guess they realize like many of us do that it is all for the kids."
