Greenville Track Club Hires First Club Administrator

The Greenville Track Club, the third oldest running club in the southeast announced on Jan. 20 the hiring of the clubs first Club Administrator. The Board of Directors made the decision to hire the first staff member for the GTC after being in existence for 34 years.

The position is on a part-time basis and has been filled by Susi Smith, a long time running advocate and club member. Smith comes into this position with 12 years of non-profit management and over the past twenty years Smith has been recognized as one of the top female runners in the state.

Running Club Makes Donations Despite Tough Economic Times

The GTC announced on Jan. 20 the club contributed over $8,500 to local organizations in 2003. Discovery Park Playground, Friends of the Zoo, and A Child's Heaven were three local organizations to receive the donations. The club also supported a children's team to the Junior Olympics by donating $1,000.

The purpose of the GTC is to sponsor local road races, corporate shield races, a summer track series, youth programs, groups runs, and other social activities. The main goal of the track club is to provide the running and fitness community with a schedule of top quality events in which area residents can reach fitness and life enrichment goals through participation or volunteering.
