The meet is scheduled for June 14.
Nelson and Stowers are the are the only two selected from South Carolina to date, according to National Scholastic Foundation's John Blackburn.
"We use a number of factors to select the team members," said Blackburn. "This is the third year the NSSF has sponsored a team to Puerto Rico. In 2006, Keith Graham from West Ashley was on the team, and last year, Marcus Pope (Andrews) was on the team.
"It is gratifying to have athletes in the state of S.C. who are among the top athletes in the country in their event, one of the primary factors in selection."
"The meet is organized by the NSSF in conjunction with various entities in Puerto Rico," said NSSF representative Joy Kamani. "We fund and take a team and the Caribbean countries who elect to participate send athletes. But it's an open meet and anyone can enter. We have online registration on our site for anyone who wants to enter from the U.S. They just enter and make their own arrangements."
A complete U.S. roster is not available at this time, according to Kamani. "We take 28 athletes," said Kamani.
