How did you get involved in the sport?
In elementary school during recess, my friends and I would always race each other and I was one of the fastest. My friend Taylor ended up telling me about the Summerville Storm track team and I joined.
I see you participate in multiple events? Do you have a favorite? Please explain.
My favorites would have to be the 200 and the 400. I am still working on a faster start and those two races give me more time to accelerate and I love coming off the curve.
From your success in 2016, what do you hope to do this season coming up?
This season my goal is to run consistent 24s in the 200, compete in the open 400 and run a 57, and I really hope to do long jump because it's so much fun. And to also qualify for New Balance Nationals in the 200 and relays.
How has competing in indoor helped this winter?
Running indoor kept me in shape for the outdoor season.
Do you have a specific motivation?
I'm motivated to bring more attention to the track program at Summerville high school and in the rest of the state.
What has been your biggest challenge in the sport?
My biggest challenge is over thinking and adding unnecessary pressure to myself.
Two years after this season left at the high school level, what do you hope to achieve in the future?
Winning a team state championship. And I intend on winning state in my individual events and the 4x100 and also getting All-American in New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
How and when do you start training for track and field?
I started training for this season back in September with endurance workouts.
What goes through your mind during each race?
My mind is literally blank when I run, I can't even hear the parents and coaches screaming at us.
What do you enjoy the most about the Summerville team?
I like how close we are and that we always push each other to do better than before.
What do you feel you have learned from your coaches, teammates and the sport?
I have learned to stay humble and that you have to give a race and practice your all.
What would like to see happen in the future?
In track terms, I would really just see more people involved in track as they are in any other sport. And I'm working towards a full ride to a Division 1 school.
If there is one thing in the world you could do, what would it be and why?
I would be an NBA courtside photographer because I'm really passionate about just capturing that perfect moment and when you see someone doing what they love, it is the best thing (basketball is also really hype).
