Coastal\'s Amber Campbell Takes Home Bronze at USA Championships

Coastal Carolina senior Amber Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) placed third in the 20lb. women\'s weight throw at the USA Track and Field Championships on Friday. Campbell is a four-time NCAA All-American that recently helped the Lady Chanticleers to their first-ever Big South Conference Indoor title.

Campbell threw a distance of 22.4 meters/72\'11.75,\" while setting a new school record and was the only thrower to also set a new personal best.

Following her throw, Campbell placed ahead of six-time US champion and two-time Olympian Dawn Ellerbe along with placing ahead of NCAA record-holder Jamine Moton.

Campbell\'s third place finish on Friday is the highest of her career at the USA Indoor Championships. Campbell finished fourth in 2002 and 2003, and seventh in 2001.

The Championships, held from Feb. 27-29 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA. is the world\'s oldest indoor track championship. The first meeting was held in 1888 in New York.

The top two finishers in each event, out of over 600 athletes, are selected for Team USA that will compete at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics from March 5-7 in Budapest, Hungary.
