scrunners: What made you decide to run cross country?
jessie: In PE I always was excited about the timed mile, so I guess I thought, "Hey, I like running, so I guess I'll join cross-country."
scrunners: What do you remember from your first race?
jessie: I remember it being very hot and sunny, and thinking that I was almost done when, really, I wasn't.
scrunners: Did you both decide to run at the same time?
jessie: Yes.
scrunners: How has it been to have a twin on the team?
jessie: It isn't really any different than having my best friend on the team. She's just there at home as well as at practice.
scrunners: Do you seeing having a twin on the team helping your running?
jessie: Yes, because she pushes me to do better, and of course there is some competitive spirit.
scrunners: What has been your biggest challenge with a twin on the team?
jessie: Sometimes, it feels like people expect us to train and race the same way, but then they learn that is not the case.
scrunners: Do you have a specific tradition prior to a race?
jessie: As a team, we get into a huddle, put our right foot in, say a quick prayer, then shout TOGETHER!
scrunners: Do you see you two going to the same college?
jessie: Maybe, but we have different ideas on what to major in.
scrunners: How will you adapt to college with or without your twin?
jessie: It'll be different not running with her, but we've been apart before. I'll call or e-mail her when I need her.
scrunners: How does your coach tell you two apart?
jessie: I don't know if he can sometimes! But, honestly, we look completely different. Katherine has longer hair and a longer face than I do, so maybe that's how he tells us apart.
scrunners: Do you have any other family members that run?
jessie: No.
scrunners: What do you think it takes to be a cross country runner?
jessie: Definitely dedication and a love of running. You can't expect to do your best if you don't love to run.
scrunners: What do you want to achieve the rest of this season and the future?
jessie: I want to break 21 minutes and get up to Katherine in races!

Personal bests: 5K: 19:54, two mile: 12:06
scrunners: What made you decide to run cross country?
katherine: I would run around for ages when I was little, and then in middle school, the gym coach told me and my sister that we would be good in cross country. It also didn't hurt the fact that some of our friends were going to run cross country.
scrunners: What do you remember from your first race?
katherine: It was Eye Opener and huge. Much bigger than I expected. I also remember someone yelling, "Go twin!"
scrunners: Did you both decide to run at the same time?
katherine: Pretty much. I think I was more excited about it at first, though.
scrunners: How has it been to have a twin on the team?
katherine: Not much different than having a best friend on the team. The only difference is that at first people expect you to be the same speed, the same intensity, but they learn pretty quickly that we are two separate people.
scrunners: Do you seeing having a twin on the team helping your running?
katherine: It most definetely has. You always have someone cheering for you and someone to train with in the off season.
scrunners: What has been your biggest challenge with a twin on the team?
katherine: The biggest challenge was in our first year when we were getting use to the sport. We were really competive against each other. Now there really isn't a challenge, we've both found out what works for us in training and races.
scrunners: Do you have a specific tradition prior to a race?
katherine: As a team, we stride out, huddle up, put our right foot in, say a quick prayer, and say, "together on three, one, two, three...TOGETHER!" Then we're good to go.
scrunners: Do you see you two going to the same college?
katherine: If we do, it will be based on our own terms; what we look for in a college, what we want to do with our lives, not because we decided to go together.
scrunners: How will you adapt to college with or without your twin?
katherine: I think we'll be okay. We are pretty independent from each other. We've gone to camps without each other. Both of us can make friends pretty quickly. We'll miss each other for sure, but as long as we aren't separated across the country, I think we'll be okay.
scrunners: How does your coach tell you two apart?
katherine: I'm still not sure he can.
scrunners: Do you have any other family members that run?
katherine: Not really.
scrunners: What do you think it takes to be a cross country runner?
katherine: Persistance for sure. And the willingness give up your free time in exchange for pain.
scrunners: What do you want to achieve the rest of this season and the future?
katherine: I really would like to see my time go down, and another team state title would be wonderful.
