USATF Junior Olympics state meet moves to Myrtle Beach

USATF South Carolina Association announced earlier this week the Junior Olympics State Championship meet is taking place at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.

"The facility was wonderful" said association spokesperson Valerie Beesley. "The hotels have been very accomodating as well. Prices in the same range as hotels in the other sites we were looking at. Many of the tourist attractions and restaurants have also offered discounts to the group attending. The city has sponsored USATF S.C. monetarily as well as providing the facility for free and helping to pay for some costs of the meet."

The meet is scheduled for June 12-14, according to the official Web site.

The association told scrunners.com in an e-mail the meet will be held in Myrtle Beach for two consecutive years.

"Perhaps some of the families attending may make a mini vacation out of it," Beesley concluded. "The city is opening the track facility the Monday-Thursday before the start of the meet for anyone who wants to use it to practice."
