Latricia Jones, a junior at Spartanburg High School was named one of two athletes of the week by www.thestate.com. Jones throws the shot put and discus at Spartanburg. The "Viking" set a new school record of 39-9 inches in the shot put last week. Sarah Irby held the former record of 38-0 since 1979.
Jones has a 2004 season best discus throw of 124-11, set at the Diamond Hornet Invitational and a 37-05 season best throw in the shot put for 2003. Jones' shot put throw of 37-05 was the sixth best at the 2003 state championships.
