What does it mean to be named Shrine Bowl Run assistant coach?
It is a huge honor to represent Byrnes High Cross Country. We have had a lot of great runners, coaches, and community support so I am gonna use the community to rally around the Shriners hospital, and the athletes participating in the event. It is a great event and I am grateful for my peers in this state that thought so highly of me to allow me this honor.
What do you enjoy about the relay run?
I enjoy the fact that this run represents the best runners in South Carolina I love the excitement the runners bring to this event, to make it so special, the children of the hospital, and the importance of this event to this state, and the community.
What do you hope each runner and those that also attend get out of it?
I hope that each runner chosen will have a tremendous experience. I watched the run last year and it was really awesome to see how pumped the kids get! I want it to be an event that kids can learn what the Shriners Hospital means to everyone involved from medical staff, to families this wonderful hospital takes such great care of.
What role will you have this coming year and then next as head coach in 2019?
I will be assisting Tyler Larkins (Ninety-Six) in every capacity this year, selecting the best runners in the state, logistics of the course set up, and I hope to learn how to organize the team (and as a side note, I hope as assistant coach this year that David Smith at Greer Middle College will let me ride along with him on his bus at some point so I can learn from him!!!)
