Javelin Explained, Other SCTCCCA Projects

What does the SCTCCCA think of the news of javelin passing?
I think overall we're excited for the prospect of adding some opportunities for our student-athletes.  The javelin is an interesting event, that often incorporates different skill sets from the discus and the shot, and therefore might give some new athletes a chance to excel.  There aren't many states that throw the javelin, so hopefully some out of state athletes will begin to venture into our state to get some recorded throws.  Florida is also adding the javelin this year, so it seems to be a trend, and as long as we respect the safety aspect of the event like we do the pole vault, it should be a great thing for our athletes.

What does this mean for the future of the event in the qualifier/
championship series?
For this upcoming season, the javelin can only be scored in invitational meets.  It can be contested in dual/tri/quad meets, but only as an exhibition.  At the region level and beyond, the event will not be contested.  In the 2019-20 school year, the event will be contested and treated just like all the other current events.
