Jacory Patterson Breaks Record in Debut

Dreher alumnus Jacory Patterson broke the world junior 300m record during his indoor college debut over the weekend. Patterson ran 32.49 at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Former Georgia sprinter Torrin Lawrence holds the NCAA record of 32.32 seconds, in 2010.

"Right now, it really hasn't sunk in," Patterson said on HokieSports.com. "But I'm really excited because I didn't know that I was going to run that fast. It hasn't sunk it. I still can't believe it. I really just wanted to go 32.60, but I had a loaded heat, and I let lane 6 [Woodard] pull me the whole race. When I got past the 200, I just gave it all I got."

Three of the four women Hokies 4x400m relay team this past weekend are from South Carolina high school teams. The relay group of Arlicia Bush (Ridge View)Kennedy Dennis (Berea)Imagine Patterson (Summerville) and Nykah Smith posted a time of 3:37.48 to win the 4x400m relay. Their time also ranked as the third-best ever in the Hokies' record book.

Imagine said on social media after the competition, "H
ad my first collegiate meet this weekend and I can't wait to see what this season holds!"
