NCHSAA 4A State Championship Meet Preview

Girls Sprints

55m Dash

The girls field has 8 girls that have run 7.20 or faster this indoor season headlined by Jonah Ross (Garner) who has run 7.60 60m Dash and 7.20 for the 55m Dash.  Though she ranks 6th in 4A coming in in the 55m, her 60m Dash indicates that she can run close to 7.00 for the 55m Dash.  She'll have strong competition in Mekyll Robinson (West Mecklenburg), Jahzara Hart (Southeast Raleigh), Taylor Boykin-Roach (Apex) and Zhamoura McPhail (High Point Central) who will all be eyeing the individual title.  This should be close to the fastest 55m Dash we've seen this indoor season.

500m Dash

Kyna Robinson (Southeast Raleigh) set the indoor state record last year winning in 1:12.33.  That has fallen to NC#2 All-Time behind Kayla Davis, but Robinson will be a heavy favorite in the 500m coming in 4 seconds faster than #2 seed Lorien Bathgate (Grimsley).  Robinson holds the current US#4 spot at 1:14.67.  The field behind Robinson is very close together all within 1 seconds of each other as the winner in what will be a two section final.  It should be very tight from 2 through 8.

300m Dash

The girls 300m Dash is loaded with four girls coming in with sub 40 credentials in Ross, Robinson, Sierra Fletcher (Southeast Raleigh) and Ariana Rivera (Providence).  Ross holds the current US#3 mark at 38.64, which is also NC#3 All-Time Indoors.  Robinson comes in at US#9 with her 39.20 seasons best.  She is also the defending champion running 37.73 last year.  That mark could place fourth this year with Fletcher and Rivera coming in with PRs of 39.85 and 39.99 this season.  This is certainly the deepest event of the entire weekend when it comes to making the podium and should be an all-time historic indoor state championship race to watch.

55m Hurdles

Sierra Fletcher (Southeast Raleigh) will look to defend last years indoor title where she ran 8.02.  This year Fletcher sits at US#7 and has run 7.95 this indoor season, and you can expect faster tomorrow.  Their will be plenty of girls chasing Fletcher in Rivera, Tashayla White (Athens Drive), Veronique Woodson (Hoke County) and Addie Renner (Myers Park).  Rivera, White and Woodson have each run under 8.5 this indoor season and should all be very close at the line tomorrow in chase of one of the nations best.
