Officials clinic Dec. 11 at University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina is hosting a USATF Officials Certification Clinic on Dec. 11 at the Indoor Track and Field Facility.

The event will run from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and will require masks and social distancing. No experience as an official or with track and field is required. The clinic will involve a mixture of hands-on training and classroom lecture. Certified officials who work South Carolina Track and Field meets are paid for their service.

To receive more information, complete the online registration form. Questions may be directed to Andrew Allden at Allden@mailbox.sc.edu.

The SCTCCCA mentioned in a post about the upcoming clinic, "We are actively trying to increase the officials pool for South Carolina track and field, and we have an opportunity in December to work on recruiting and training officials with the help of USATF. Please send the following message out to any parents of former athletes, former athletes over 21, or other people you know who might love track and field but may not have a student who competes anymore. If we can get these people back involved with track and field as officials, I think we can make a much stronger base of officials state wide. We need everything from starters to umpires to field event specialists. Then you can take the National Federation of State High School Associations test to get certified at the high school level. This will leave you certified to officiate high school meets, college meets, and USATF youth meets."
