Highlanders' Coach Cindy Scannella Loses Battle with Cancer

Heathwood Hall announced on social media Sunday morning the passing of coach Cindy Scannella after a battle with cancer.

The post (complete below) said, "Cindy's dedication to Heathwood's running programs is legendary. Having dedicated countless dark mornings to setting up for meets and managing practices, she was often packing up as the sun set. From driving the bus to pitching the team's tent, setting up the course, coaching, and cheering on our runners as they raced, Cindy did everything.

Coach Scanella was driven and full of energy. She had a talent for recognizing and unlocking the athletic potential in her runners. Under her leadership, Heathwood students earned numerous individual and group accolades, including two SCISA State Boys XC Championships (2016 & 2020), a SCISA State Boys Track & Field Championship (2021), and two SCISA "Best All Around" yearbook awards ('2016 and 2018)."
