Laurence F. Sanders, a regular contributor to the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association awarded athletes from the State Cross Country Championships based on their performances in Columbia. The awards are in categories based on grade. Athletes were only allowed to be named to one category and school recognition is based on major movement of a top 10 school this year compared to their team performance last year.
Kate Niehaus was named Girls MVP after winning her third straight 4A title. Sunday Ford, a senior at Wren High School received the girl's senior award. Stephanie Gammon of Daniel was given the girl's varsity award. Alyssa Kulik of Mauldin was named girl's freshman. Hannah Robinson of Northwestern was named girls middle school runner.
Reid Wilson was named Boys MVP. Will Noble of Laurens was named boy's senior with Northwestern's JC Koziel named boy's varsity award. Stefan Shealy of Broome was named boy's freshman. Brian Symmes of Eastside was named boy's middle school.
In the girl's 4A team standings Dorman moved from sixth in 2003 to State Champions in 2004. Mauldin moved from 12th in 2003 to state runner-up in 2004. South Aiken moved from eighth in 2003 to fourth in 2004. Ft. Mill did not place in 2003 and in 2004 the girls finished 10th.
In the 3A girl's meet Clover moved from 12th in 2003 to seventh in 2004.
In the girl's 2A event Christ Church moved from fourth in 2003 to State Champions in 2004. Swansea moved from ninth in 2003 to sixth in 2004 with Diana Willard winning her sixth individual title. Cheraw moved from 16th in 2003 to seventh in 2004. Palmetto moved from 13th in 2003 to eighth in 2004. Batesburg-Leesville moved from 15th in 2003 to ninth in 2004.
Northwestern boys did not place in the 2003 4A boy's event to becoming State Champions in 2004. South Aiken moved from ninth in 2003 to sixth in 2004. Hilton Head moved from 16th in 2003 to seventh in 2004.
In the boy's 3A team standings Blue Ridge moved from State Champions in 2A in 2003 to State Champions in 3A in 2004. Daniel moved from sixth in 2003 to third in 2004. Myrtle Beach moved from 16th in 2003 to ninth in 2004.
