SPARTANBURG -- Broome cross country and track and field coach Skip Frye has been named the school's head athletic director effective July 1.
Frye has served as assistant since 2007. He joined Spartanburg District three in 1981 after coaching basketball as an assistant at Laurens Junior High School.
"I am excited about this opportunity that the school board and Dr. (Jim) Ray have given me to serve District Three as Broome’s athletic director," Frye said in a statement. "Broome High School has been home to me since 1982, and along with our excellent coaches and administration, I look forward to helping our kids succeed in continuing the excellent tradition Broome has developed in athletics and academics."
While at Broome Frye has led the Centurions to 26 region and five state championships in girls and boys cross country and track and field.
Frye replaces Hal McManus who has been hired as head boys basketball coach at Spartanburg.
