Performance Overview: 2005 Coaches Classic

Dreher's Brittney James proved why she is a University of South Carolina signee with wins in the long jump, triple jump, high jump and the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.49 at the Coaches Classic meet on March 26 in Columbia. James was awarded meet MVP for the second week in a row, with the first honor received at the Outback Classic on March 19.

Dorman\'s Christian Nash won both the 110 high hurdles, and the 400 intermediate hurdles.

Kate Niehaus, of Spring Valley, coming off a 3200 NIC victory, was back in action in the 1600, which she won with a time of 5:04.92. Niehaus, and the Spring Valley 3200-meter relay team finished first in 9:48.35, the only team to break the 10-minute mark.

In the boys 400-meter relay Lower Richland finished first in 42.08. Ridge View boys finished first in the 1600-meter relay in 3:19.83. In the 3200-meter relay the Spring Valley boys placed first in 8;12.31, .23 seconds ahead of second place Fort Mill. Ridge View rounded out the top three in 8:14.69.

In the girls 3200 runners, 10 runners broke the 12 minute mark. Dorman\'s Stephanie Buffo finished first in 11:22.56. Laura Laughlin (South Aiken) and Theresa Verostek (Northwestern) finished second and third, respectively.

In the boy's distance events, Northwestern's Brandon Hudgins finished first in the mile with a 4:20.65. Graham Tribble of Ben Lippen finished second in 4:22.86. Tribble then took first in the boy's 3200 event in 9:33.14 under the lights. Hudgins crossed the line with a second place time of 9:35.11.

Stratford junior Toma Walker, held on to his No. 1 SC database performance in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.35. Darian Hodges (Spring Valley) finished second and Brandon Galbraith of Beaufort crossed the line third.

Jessica Young, Ridgeview won the 200 for the second week.

Jessica Nichols of Berkeley beat out the past two state winners in the girls 800 with a three second margin of victory. Candice Johnson, Byrnes who won state in 2004 and 2003 and 2002 state winner and state record holder Vondesshia Humphries, Irmo finished second and fourth, respectively. Spartanburg High\'s Santresa Jamison rounded out the top three in the two-lap event. Nichols ran a 2:21.67.

George Fields of Ridge View, who finished second in Indoor Nationals leaped to a long jump victory of 24'8.75" Saturday.

Teams from South Carolina and the nation will join at Spring Valley on April 8-9 for the Taco Bell Classic. .
