Union Invitational Release

Union, S.C. --- South Carolina's high school normal cross-country season has come to an end. The Union Invitational was held this morning. The boy's race consisted of 48 runners and the girl's race consisted of 25 runners.

Union teammates Jade Lawson and Erin Wendel paired together to place 1st and 2nd respectively in the girls 5k race. Lawson ran a 20:14 and Wendel ran a 20:16. Lawson and Wendel led the girl's race from start to finish. Sawyer Langston of Broome finished out the top three runners for the girls in 20:33. Head Coach Mike Massey and the Union girls captured the team title with 15 points over Eastside High School (50 points).

Trevor Storm of Union ran a 16:55 in the boy's 5k race to place 1st. Eastside runner David placed 2nd in 17:00 and helped the Eagles capture team title over Broome. The boy's race started at 9:30 a.m. with Storm and teammate taking the lead with Vass and Broome runner Grady Swofford rounding out the top three finishers (17:09). Vass took the lead from the Union runners shortly after 400 meters into the race. Storm finished twenty-five meters ahead of Vass. Vass passed Swofford of Broome with 400 meters to go in the race.
