MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Lexington 4x1600-meter relay team of Blake White, Erik Wendt, Tony Morales and Colby Coulter ran a state best time of 18 minutes, 23.50 seconds at the Mellow Mushroom Relays Saturday.

Hilton Head, also in the relay, set the previous record of 18 minutes, 26 seconds at the Sandlapper Classic at West Ashley on March 5. The previous best was run Spartanburg (18:33) in 1985 at the Trojan Relays.

The Seahawks team consisted of Michael Brewer (4:35), Sean McMahon (4:45), Jack Manesiotis (4:37) and Mackenzie Johnston (4:45). Hilton Head was second in 18 minutes, 44 seconds.

The Hilton Head relay team was without Jack Felix. Coach Max Mayo told scrunners.com he was nursing a sore leg. "We ran a 4:45 leg instead of the 4:20 he has run," said Mayo. "Our anchor leg, Mackenzie Johnston, eased up when he saw we could not win and ran 4:44 but on the distance medley, he ran 4:28."
