Spring Valley senior Kate Niehaus was awarded the state winner for the 2005 Wendy\'s High School Heisman Award.
Niehaus captured her fourth consecutive state title Nov. 5 and holds the state meet best of 17:36.81. On Nov. 26 Niehaus will look to qualify for her fourth Footlocker Nationals at the Footlocker South meet in Charlotte. The national meet is held Dec. 10 in San Diego, Calif.
The award is given to a senior male and female who excels in athletics, scholarship and community service, according to a press release sent out Thurs.
Niehaus is now able to compete in the next round of the national competition where 12 national finalists - a male and a female from six regions - will be selected. National finalists will be announced mid-November and national winners will be named in December in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman presentation.
Other state finalists from the sports of cross country and track and field are Clover\'s Kristen Thomas, Ben Lippen\'s Graham Tribble, and Wando High\'s Daniel Vincent.
