MYRTLE BEACH -- Spartanburg's Nathaniel Gordon and Dreher alumna Christal Green (Jump Start Athletics) led the state on the track with individual national titles Saturday at U.S.A. Youth Nationals.
Gordon finished first in the intermediate boys 800-meter run (1:57.39). Gordon had the fastest the preliminary time (1:59.27). Gordon qualified for Sunday's 1,500-meter finals.
Green sealed a win in the young women's 200-meter dash (24.16). Green ran the second fastest preliminary time (23.97).
Green, heading to University of South Carolina next month, is seeded first in Sunday's young women 400-meter dash finals. Green ran 54.70 in the preliminaries.
Sarah Lee (Mt. Pleasant) finished first in the intermediate girls pole vault (11-01.75).
Kyle Watkins (Myrtle Beach) finished first in the sub-bantam boys 800-meter dash (2:37.76). Watkins had the fastest time going into the finals (2:45.75).
Will Vereen (Myrtle Beach) won the midget boys long jump (15-09).
The six-day meet concludes Sunday at Doug Shaw Stadium.
