Ridge View senior Lauryn Cameron talks with MileSplit SC before her senior cross country and track and field season.
Looking back at the track and field season, what were your biggest personal accomplishments? Why? My biggest accomplishments were earning 2 medals for placing Top 10 in meets. Although it was only two medals out of the whole season, it still motivates me to continue working hard so I can earn more.
How did you get involved in the sports? I've always been involved in sports in general along with my dad and brother. Cheerleading, volleyball, and gymnastics were previous sports that I've practiced. My dad was an athlete when he was younger, so he was adamant on me and my brother becoming an athlete too.
How's cross country training going? It's going good! I feel like I've been improving on my endurance and speed, so I'm hopeful for this season.

What would you like to improve for the 2026 South Carolina cross country season? I'm honestly not sure. I'm perfectly fine with how this season is going now.
What's your motivation for 2026? My main motivation is knowing that all the hard work and hardship that I go through now will all pay off for the future I'm going to get. I'm going to achieve my dreams no matter who or what gets in my way.
Tell us about your team, what do you enjoy about the Ridge View team? Definitely my teammates. They're what make practice fun, and we're able to get things done during our meets.
What's your favorite cross country course and why? Friday Night Lights XC Festivalmost definitely. It's fun seeing the lights at night, and it's an easy course to run.
What meets/course are you looking forward to racing? Newberry. I hate that course with a passion, but I want to see how much I've improved since last season.
What has been your biggest challenge in the sports? It's more of a personal thing, but I struggle with managing my sleep and diet. It's mainly just because of discipline and actually learning how to cook.
What other hobbies do you have? I like making art, reading, writing in my journal, listening to music and I hope to learn to how to sew and do some arts and crafts.
Do you see yourself coaching in the future? No. My future dreams have nothing to do with sports or being an athlete (unless doing that actually gets me closer to my goals), so I don't even think about coaching.
