Lexington's Colby Coulter won the 5,000-meter run in 15 minutes, 52 seconds at the Providence Invitational at McAlpine Park in Charlotte. Coulter finished 14 seconds ahead of second-place finisher George Oliver (Mount Tabor).

Blake White (Lexington) was eighth overall (16:17) and teammate Tony Morales finished 11th in 16 minutes, 23 seconds.

"What a way to open up the season," said Lexington coach Bailey Harris. "A big meet on a big time course and our guys ran really well. Most of our kids have run Foot Locker (South) there, but not a team meet."

Lexington boys finished first with 51 points. Mount Tabor (N.C.) was second with 73. Hilton Head finished seventh (242) and Mauldin eighth (266).

In the varsity girls 5,000, Hilton Head finished fourth in the team standings (194) with Lexington finishing seventh (241).  Ardrey Kell (N.C.) was first with 42 points.
