Hawk Invitational 2019

North Charleston, SC
Hosted by Hanahan

Meet Information

All--We are holding the event rain or shine. If there is thunder or
lightning the SCHSL has established protocols about how much time we must wait
after the most recent thunderclap or lightning strike, so we will hope for the
best and be prepared for the worst. There are some covered shelters in the park, Hanahan will not even bring a team tent because of the space which is typically available. If there is lightning, the CCPRC asks that people go sit in a vehicle until that passes.

If the course gets too soggy to be safe, we will alter the race
to the paved trails which drain well....I've trained my runners on that paved
loop and we've not had issues with athletes falling. If we have to wait too
much time to start the first (girl's) race due to thunder/lightning, we will
simply combine the two events but still score them separately. I expect the
number of teams to drop if it's poor weather, but we will still hold the event
as long as it is safe to do so. The runners can wear spikes to help with traction on the dirt/gravel paths, which we will try to use unless it is really bad.

Best,

Coach Bachman

This event is limited to SCHSL and SCISA schools only.

Registration is limited to 15 individuals per gender (30 total per school).

There will be no chip timing, rather coaches will need to time their athletes. There will be no athletic trainer present or ice for bags, schools should bring coolers of ice and bags. There are walk-in medical facilities less than one mile away. There are no awards for the top finishers or the top team(s), only an announcement will be made near the end of the second race, promptly at 5:45 PM, even if slower runners are still on the course. This is due to the need to have the course markings cleared and the park vacated by sundown, per county park requirements. There are permanent restroom facilities in the park and there is limited seating under picnic pavilions if those have not been rented by others. Spectators are encouraged to bring collapsible chairs, as there are strategic points near the start/finish area which will allow fans to see their favorite runners pass by several times.

The girl's race will begin at 4:15 PM, followed by the boy's race at 4:55 PM. Winners will be announced promptly at 5:45 PM.

Teams and spectators should plan to arrive early as the event is held in an area of high traffic congestion, particularly during the afternoon rush hour. Team buses and/or vans will be admitted free of charge to the park, however all others must pay a $2/person park admission fee unless someone in the vehicle has a CCPRC Gold Pass, which will admit up to 15 spectators in the same vehicle. Paying the park admission at the front gate also considerably slows the entrance into the park.
