Salute to seniors: James Island's Makyla Stanley

What was your most memorable race/competition?
My most memorable race was my junior year at Taco Bell classic when I ran my high school best in the 100 dash, 11.91

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I faced my biggest competition at the 2014 New Balance Nationals.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Definitely leading my team to our first ever in school history team state championship.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
I would not change one thing about my high school career, not a coach, not my team, nothing. I am so blessed to have my high school career go as well as it did.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacles I've had were definitely the "mental blocks" in between events when I didn't perform well in one of them.

What will you miss the most?
I will definitely miss being with my teammates. From the hard and easy practices, down to the crazy bus rides.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
The best advice I can give younger athletes is to NEVER give up. You never know how close you are to your break through. No matter how far it may seem or how hard it gets, do not give up.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals?
My coaches and I are closely knit. They influenced me greatly from the time I first came to track to now. They not only made me a better athlete but an even better all around person!

What are your college plans?
My college plans are to definitely graduate on time. Athletically I would like to continue my record breaking. Simply become the best athlete I can be.

Shout-Outs?
HUGE shoutout to Coach E for discovering me back in seventh grade! Also to every coach I've worked with, especially coach white. Shoutout to all my supports especially my biggest ones, my parents!
