Dorman boys, Stratford teams win titles at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG -- Dorman boys captured the international boys team title at the 26th annual S.C.S.D.B. Eye Opener at The Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg. The Cavaliers finished sixth in the 2008 team standings.

"We were pleased," said Dorman coach Jeff Buys. "Early season invitationals are really just a chance to see how your summer went, and by that measure it was nice to see our work this summer translate to a good early performance.  Winning the Eye Opener meet is a great way to start the season, it's the first time that's happened for the Dorman program, so that was fun for us."

T.C. Roberson (N.C.) finished second and Spartanburg third.

Wando girls finished second in international team standings to T.C. Roberson. St. Joseph's girls finished fourth with Dorman fifth.

Woodmont senior Aaron Ramirez, the 2008 championship boys winner, finished third overall in the international race.

Stratford's Steve Rivard, from Canada, finished first in the championship boys. Rivard led the Knights to the team title over Riverside (63 to 97).

Chesnee's Austin High was second (16:58). Rivard's teammate Bobby O'Brien rounded out the top four (17:09).

"There are no changes to our goals for the year," Buys concluded. "We hope to be at our best at the end of October and early November."
