All-State Track and Field Proposal

All-State for Track and Field starting in 2010 will be the top 2 athletes (in each event, in each classification) at the State Meet and any other athlete that equals or surpasses one of the standards.

New standards are attached.

Track  Officials Body

A survey of seven questions was sent out to several officiating bodies to see if there was an interest in track officiating. The first question asked survey participants would they be interested in a paid officiating position. The question was answered with a 339 (yes) interested out of 462 surveyed. The survey revealed the following experiences were among the participants: 235-track and field,  134-throwing , 251-running, 161-jumping , 249-diversified experiences (coach or athlete)

The final question asked would they be willing to take a certification test along with participate in a rules clinic… 342 responded yes.  Rick Crumpler (SV) expressed concerns on what meets the officials will officiate and how many official we will need.  John Jones (SV) would like the SCHSL to use their power, office and logo to get officials to serve. The SCHSL should host 2-3 certification half days and provide a website of track officials for coaches.

Rick Crumpler recommended that J.J. Lagulli make a proposal during the New Business section of the coaches meeting. A plan should be established on how we use track officials.
